World Youth Day Seoul 2027

Parish Group Registration

Walking Together as Pilgrims of Faith

World Youth Day (WYD) is an international gathering of young Catholics from around the world with the Holy Father. More than a large event, WYD is a journey of faith, formation, and mission, calling young people to encounter Christ more deeply and to return renewed, ready to serve the Church and society.

The next World Youth Day will be held on August 3-8, 2027, in Seoul, South Korea. In preparation for World Youth Day 2027, our parish is opening registration for young people who feel called to take part in this journey together as a parish community.

Our Parish’s Approach to World Youth Day

World Youth Day is not a trip or a tour. It is a formative experience that requires commitment, discipline, and openness to growth. For this reason, participation in WYD through our parish involves:

  • Ongoing spiritual and communal preparation before WYD
  • Active involvement in fundraising (if any) and group activities
  • A willingness to use the fruits of the experience for the good of the Church

Our goal is to accompany young people who sincerely wish to grow in faith and who are ready to become witnesses of the Church in their daily lives after returning from WYD.

Who Should Register?

We encourage young people to register if they:

  • Desire to grow in their relationship with God
  • Are open to faith formation and guidance from the Church
  • Are willing to commit time, energy, and effort to the Church community
  • Understand that WYD is a journey of service, not merely an opportunity to travel

We especially invite those who feel called to become witnesses of faith and contributors to Church life after WYD.

Young People at the WYD

Participant Requirements

To take part in World Youth Day 2027 through our parish, applicants must be:

  • between 17 and 35 years old at the time of registration (for participants under 18 years old, parental awareness and consent will be required),
  • single (has not been married yet),
  • baptized as a Catholic, or currently in the Catechumenate (RCIA) process, and expected to receive Baptism before WYD 2027,
  • physically and mentally healthy (WYD involves long days, extensive walking, large crowds, and an intense program of activities),
  • able to take care of themselves independently (including personal health, discipline, punctuality, and responsibility during the entire WYD journey and parish activities).

Commitment and Expectations

Young people who are selected to represent the parish are expected to:

  • participate in all preparatory meetings, formation sessions, and group activities,
  • take part actively in fundraising efforts (if any) organized by the parish group,
  • live a spirit of community, discipline, and cooperation throughout the journey,
  • respect parish and WYD guidelines, including schedules, code of conduct, and group discipline,
  • commit to post-WYD service, sharing their experience and continuing to serve the parish.

This commitment reflects the understanding that WYD is not an end, but a beginning of deeper involvement in the life of the Church.

Activities Outline

For the list of activities during the WYD, please refer to the official WYD web page here.

Note: On August 4, we’ll also attend the International Oblate Youth Encounter (IOYE) in the Diocese of Suwon (approx. 30 KM from Seoul), a gathering of young people from parishes that are served by priests from the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI).

Cost & Expenses

The total cost to participate in the WYD with our group would be around IDR 18.500.000, which covers the following items:

  • Return Flights* CGK-Seoul-CGK
  • WYD* Pilgrim Package (A1 or A1+) – see details here
  • Travel Insurance*
  • South Korea Visa*
  • Pre-WYD Meetings
  • Group Merchandise

* non-refundable

The total cost is subject to change depending on the currency rates, flight fares, etc.

Accommodation & Activities Condition

Shared accommodations provided by the WYD committee will most likely be at public venues (sports halls, schools, etc.). That means participants must be willing to sleep in a sleeping bag. That also means bathrooms and toilets will be shared with others. On the night before the closing Mass, it is also expected that we’ll sleep in an outdoor area.

There will also be a lot of walking and riding public transport, so participants should be ready to bring a carrier backpack (instead of a suitcase) and must be physically ready for such activities.

Final Note on the Process

World Youth Day is a gift, but it also carries responsibility. Not everyone has the opportunity to participate, so we ask all applicants to enter this process with a spirit of prayer, openness to trust in God’s grace, and willingness to be a witness.

World Youth Day is not a tour or holiday trip. It is a pilgrimage and a faith formation journey that includes prayer, catechesis, community life, and encounter with the universal Church. Participants are expected to grow spiritually and to bring the fruits of this experience back to the parish.

Selected participants are expected to:

  • attend all required preparation meetings and formation sessions,
  • participate actively in group activities and fundraising efforts (if any),
  • commit to community life, discipline, and cooperation within the parish group.

These commitments are essential parts of the WYD journey.

After WYD, participants are expected to:

  • continue serving in the Church ministries or activities,
  • share their WYD experience with the Church,
  • help other young people within the parish to grow their faith.

World Youth Day is meant to bear fruit after the event, not end with the journey.

We understand that young people have real responsibilities. However, WYD requires a serious time commitment. Applicants are encouraged to discern honestly whether they are able to prioritize preparation meetings and activities before registering.
